This randomized, double-blind affliction conducted at 9 US centers evaluated 350 children between the ages of 6 months and 12 age with acute otitis media. Patients were randomized to receive either a 30 mg/kg single-dose of azithromycin or 45 mg/kg of amoxicillin twice a day for 10 days. The statistic age of children treated with azithromycin was 2.7 old age and 3.4 time of life for those in the amoxicillin abstraction.
Azithromycin was generally well tolerated in the document, with 17% of patients in the azithromycin radical experiencing treatment-related adverse events compared with 23% of those receiving amoxicillin. More children discontinued due to adverse events when taking amoxicillin compared with azithromycin (6 vs 2 children, respectively). Additionally, twice as many children from the amoxicillin building block experienced diarrhea vs those receiving azithromycin (22 vs 11 children, respectively). Vomiting, generally mild, occurred in 7 children in each drug abstract entity.
